چکیده

Measurements were taken to evaluate the evolution of homogeneity in disks of high-purity aluminum in the early stages of processing by high-pressure torsion. The results demonstrate that samples processed through 1/4 or more whole revolutions exhibit microhardness values which are generally higher in the centers of the disks than at the edges whereas after 1/8 turn the hardness is higher at the edge than in the center. It is shown that all of the hardness measurements are mutually consistent and they scatter around a unique curve when plotted against the equivalent strain. The measurements of hardness are supplemented by microstructural observations which provide evidence of a gradual evolution in the microstructure with increasing strain from an initial formation of subgrains to an array of ultrafine grains separated by boundaries having high angles of misorientation. Plastic Flow and Grain Refinement Under Simple Shear-Based Severe Plastic Deformation Processing

In the present work, effects of loading scheme and strain reversal on structure evolution are studied by using high pressure torsion (HPT) and twist extrusion (TE) techniques. High purity aluminum (99.99%) was processed at room temperature up to a total average equivalent strain of ~4.8 by TE and HPT with two deformation modes: monotonic and reversal deformation with a step of 12 ̊ rotation. It ...

Examining the microhardness evolution and thermal stability of an Al–Mg–Sc alloy processed by high-pressure torsion at a high temperature

An Al–3% Mg–0.2% Sc alloy was solution treated and processed through 10 turns of highpressure torsion (HPT) at 450 K. Afterwards, the HPT-processed alloy was annealed for 1 h at temperatures ranging from 423 to 773 K and its mechanical properties and microstructural evolution were examined using microhardness measurements and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis. The results demon...

Microstructural evolution and phase transformation in twinning-induced plasticity steel induced by high-pressure torsion

The microstructural evolution of twinning-induced plasticity steel during high-pressure torsion (HPT) processing at 573 K was systematically evaluated. Due to the high processing temperature, the formation of a homogeneous nanostructure was primarily dominated by complicated dislocation and grain boundary activities in lieu of deformation twinning. Apart from the grain refinement process, phase...

Numerical Analysis of Severe Plastic Deformation by High Pressure Torsion

High-pressure torsion (HPT) is a metal processing method in which the sample is subjected to a very high plastic shear deformation. This process can produce exceptional levels of grain refinement, and provides a corresponding improvement in mechanical properties. To investigate the stress and strain distribution due to HPT process finite element simulation were conducted to investigate effectiv...

Investigation on the Deformation Behavior and Strain Distribution of Commercially Pure Aluminum after Circular Simple Shear Extrusion

Circular simple shear extrusion process was introduced as a new geometry for simple shear extrusion technique to fabricate ultrafine-grained materials. Similar to the simple shear extrusion method, this process is also based on direct extrusion, and the samples deform in a simple shear manner. In this investigation, the simulations were carried out using the commercial finite element code ABAQU...
